Electrical Engineering Projects
Jul 2019 - Dec 2019
I wanted to have a simple-to-use board that could interface a thermocouple with a microcontroller, so I created this breakout board for the MAX31856 thermocouple-to-digital IC. The board features I/O buffering as well as protection from reverse voltage, noise, and overcurrent.

The idea for this project is to create a WiFi-controllable switch for the pool pump at my house. The device needs to be able to switch the two 15 A live wires running to the pool pump.

There are various weather satellites in orbit which periodically transmit information and images. The communication protocols and bands are publically available for many of them, meaning amateurs can receive these transmissions and extract the data.

I wanted to create a cool ornament for the Christmas season using my electrical engineering skills, so I decided to create a Christmas-tree shaped PCB.

This is a simple project to create a Wi-Fi connected pool thermometer. It will have two one-wire thermocouple inputs that can be used to measure the pools temperature, and then use an ESP module to send the information to a home automation server.

For one of my lab finals the task was to create a simple game that must include components from a predefined list. The game was a candle that could be ignited and then blown out.

I have a bunch of old, defunct, cheap solar LEDs from Harbor Freight that when working at their full potential, produce barely enough light to be visible. I am going to attempt to disassemble them and see if any minor improvements can be made to make them more robust and useful, or if the components can be used for something more interesting.
Engineering Projects

This project is mainly a collection of different mechanical aspects of the gokart worked on over time. Because the gokart has been assembled over the course of many years, a lot of the documentation does not exist or has been lost.

A keezer is a chest freezer that is converted to hold beer kegs. Chest freezers are much easier to work with than regular refrigerators, can hold multiple kegs, and can be found cheaper per cubic foot.

I built a simple welding cart for carrying gas cylinders, or alternatively kegs for homebrewing. It was built from scrap metal from previous projects, and welded with fluxcore wire.
